Subject: Removing Oxygen Sensor tips needed,
              broken O2 sensor cause backfire?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Double barrel questions.

Part I: How can I remove the Oxygen(O2) sensor?

I've hooked three wrenches together to get around two feet of leverage, and pulled such that they were really bending ( these are Craftsman wrenches ). I sprayed oil on the 02 sensor to loosen it yesterday. I'm hoping to get it off so I can solder back on the lead wire that has been ripped off it. Should I apply some heat with a propane torch?

Part II:

Would an unconnected O2 sensor lead to backfiring and trouble starting? I'm guessing the O2 sensor measures the oxygen in the exhaust and communicates that to the computer which then gets the fuel injector to adjust the mixture of air and fuel.

Part III: (Don't care if you answer, but I'm curious) I've got an 84 Westy, I've noticed in the Bently they refer to Digijet and Dijifant. Is 83-85 = Digijet and 86-89 Digifant?

Thanks all, Fenton & Jessey

84 Westy
