I'll bet the bad bearing is in the front. Especially since you can change the noise by changing the steering.

Good Morning list, My '87 Syncro has been making wheel bearing related noises lately. My general sense is that it's coming from the rear, but my ears aren't as good as they once were. The hum/rumble goes away if I steer slightly to the right. Having never done this, has anyone successfully replaced the rear bearings using only hand tools? (i.e. G.M. Bulley's method of a hammer, a drift, and a million taps?). I haven't been able to detect any wheel shake by hand, so it's time to pull out the shotgun and start firing, one wheel at a time. Thanks Dave
