Only if your caravaning with someone you want to be able to chat with, or if you're travelling through areas with no cell service. If you have an analog cell phone coverage will be pretty good, but if yours is digital-only expect large gaps. My VoiceStream cell phone doesn't work at all anywhere in Nebraska, for example.
