There is no bad smell unless you have a leak. Which you don't want anyway :)

Propane engines can have a high compression ratio because it has higher octane than gasoline, generally around 110. I've always wanted to convert a VW 2.0 16V engine, it has 10.8 CR (Canadian version) with knock sensor.

Turbo charging a propane engine works good because of the high octane of propane. Plus, most propane fuel systems are good for a minimum of 250 or so hp. You don't have to worry about fueling problems like you do with EFI gasoline cars.
