I'd throw it out and get a different one. Just so you know, a 1985 to 1992 Golf and Jetta tach will drop right in the plastic casing. You do need to take the Jetta face plate with you and it will be a slightly different font, but they do work quite well. We use these for people who are doing an I4 swap and need a higher revving tach or a Diesel tach.

Hello Volks -- couple days ago my tach turned up its toes -- any time power is applied it runs up to just below the mechanical stop (well offscale) and hangs there. Anyone with schematics and/or practical troubleshooting experience with these? I haven't pulled the cluster yet, though I did get a reminder that the primary coil pulse is available at a terminal on the back of the tach...ouch <g>
