I believe in helmets, not helmet laws. If someone dies because they weren't wearing a helmet, that's Darwinism. I've been wearing a helmet on motorcycles for over 37 years, and I didn't need the government to tell me to.

On the flip side, no one should be allowed to have a driver's license unless the can prove they have auto/motorcycle and health insurance.

Of course we don't live in a perfect world where everyone's going to have insurance and keep it current. And of course, we can't let every stupid slob who scrambled his eggs because he wasn't wearing a helmet suffer from lack of health care. So perhaps the government is right, if we can't be expected to act responsibly, they'll just have to legislate it. My only question is... what's next? 6 point roll cages for Vanagons!! (required VC)

Cheers,

Jeff

As a motorcyclist for over thirty five years and 19 bikes, several accidents, both with helmets and without, I believe in helmet laws. Although I started riding without a helmet, as there was no law then, I'm glad that laws were passed that FORCED me to wear a helmet. If there hadn't been, I'd probably be dead or a permanent drooler today. Any kid can walk into a dealership today and buy a motorcycle cabable of doing nearly 200 mph. I don't really care if these young guys kill themselves, but if they become droolers, I end up paying for their long-term care.
