wes, my man, I'll tell you what I used to do when I ran a 2WD in some pretty nasty conditions. Get two 100 LB. bags of anti-skid (i.e., pea sized, sharp-edged, broken stone) and place them across the cargo shelf right behind the rear seat. Then, have a pair of Nokian Hakkapeliita's mounted. Vredestein Snow ++ are also acceptable winter tires. If you have the winter tires mounted on spare wheels and are faithful in removing them at the end of the season, you can get several years of usage out of them.
