Mark, I have been through this problem with the automatic transmission on my '84. Have your mechanic recommend a good automatic transmission shop. While it might mean that the O-ring on the governor plate is worn, I may also mean that one of the passages in the control module is dirty and you have an overpressure situation in the transmission. Yes, a new governor plate O-ring might temporarily fix the problem, but you could wind up with another leak a few days later. I had this problem last November. I wold have saved some $$$ and frustration had I gone to the experts first. A local automatic transmission place fixed the problem for $125.00. John Lauterbach Macon, GA '84 7-passenger

> I noticed a small puddle on the driveway and finally got under the van (87 Gl, Auto) to check it out. Seems that the tranny is leaking from it's side. There is a round, flat part of the side of the gearbox case, about 3 in. diameter, that is leaking ATF. Look slike a seal. Is it? I'll probably take it in to the mechanic's next week, but what to expect...?TIA. > > > Mark Garcia > Alhambra, CA > So Cal VW Campers > http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SoCalVWCampers/ > > _______________________________________________ > Join Excite! - http://www.excite.com > The most personalized portal on the Web! |
