Page 26.7 in Bentley clearly show all six rods that are needed. Three on the left side and three on the right side. They form a triangle support structure on either side. On the right side you have one long bent one attached to the muffler support bracket with two bolts and the other end attached to the rear lower corner of the engine case where the push rod tube cover bolts on. The other long rod is attached to the first rod at the hole just aft of the two holes for the muffler support bracket with the other end attached to the right lower engine case. The third short rod is attached to the stud welded to the tab on the exhaust pipe flange at the head connection and the other end is attached to the muffler support bracket and first rod connection second bolt. The left side rod with the 90 degree bent end goes from the stud welded to the tab on the j-pipe to the left lower engine case tab. The other long straight rod goes from the same connection on the j-pipe to one of the studs welded to the tabs on the exhaust pipe flange at the head. The third shorter rod with both ends angle bent goes from the top bolt connection between the CAT and J-pipe with the other end attached to the other stud welded to the tab on the exhaust pipe header flange at the head. Is this exhaust support system complicated enough or what ???? What the hell were they thinking over there in the Fatherland !!!!! German engineering --------Pooey ! Just as a side note, I have all these rods made from stainless steel at $25 USD each. See my STEBRO/Vanagon Stainless Steel Exhaust System {http://members.aol.com/Fkc43/stebro.htm} webpage for complete details.
