       One more comment !  I bought a set of these heavy duty struts from Ron 
about 4 ~ 5 years ago.  They still hold the hatch open in any position with 
three bikes on my hatch mounted bike rack.  The hatch has been noticeably 
easier to close in the last year but still holds the hatch open with the bikes on 
there.  One thing I did notice was the slower you closed the hatch the easier 
it was and vice versa.  So don't be in a hurry to close the hatch.  Gentleness 
goes a long, long way in this instance !
