Subject: Power window Regulator Questions

Hi All,

I Have a question,

I have an 89 Auto Power Carat that came off the line in 11/88.

My drivers side regulator needs replacement, the previous owner for some reason replaced it with an after market unit that said it was a compatible Caravelle unit, and had a Bocsh motor with it (which still works fine). He left me a message saying he replaced it himself and thinks he got it from Napa Auto parts, but online they have no such part listed.

Now here the question, my local NYC mechanic said he ordered a an OEM VW regulator for the driver side for an 89 and it would not fit, is this possible?

He says the van is really a 88 not an 89 due the date it came off the line. VIN says its an 89.

Should the OEM VW unit work with the Bocsh motor?

What¹s the truth behind all this.

I thought all power windows from late model vanagons 86-91 would fit in my 89 Carat with power windows is this not true?

If I purchased a new aftermarket motor and regulator from Vanagain.com for $140 it should work and install with out a problem right?

Thanks for your time,

Robert NYC
