I would contend that since both bumpers will utilize the same mounting points, the damage to the frame/unibody would be similar with either bumper. The only difference would be the amount of damage to the bumper itself.

A stronger bumper would protect the parts of the body that are outside of the bumper mounting points though, like both rear corners of the van.
