Don't forget to allow for coincidences. I had trans seals and fluid
replaced, then two weeks later it starting shifting sluggishly. On a
2000 mile trip to new york and back, I had to let it cool half hour at
a rest stop to get it into gear. I was sure the shop had done
something... they hadn't. Close inspection of the slave cylinder showed
fluid weeping, a new cylinder made my Vanagon shift like new.

Also, if you've done brake work recently, and you let the fluid get
low, you might need to bleed the clutch to cure sluggish shifting.
