I took my van to Egypt with me a few years ago and I 'knew' I could not get a propane hook-up there for the stock propane tank, so I took the tank & copper lines off prior to shipping. I was right.

In Egypt I found a propane nipple that would screw onto the rear-top threads of the fridge and then I hooked some 'good'(?) Egyptian propane rubber hose (no connections at either end) up to a propane bottle with some cheap regulator. The stove worked, but the fridge never worked.

Upon returning home (Halifax) I re-installed the propane tank but cricked the copper line to the fridge, so I just cut it off and used the propane hose that I brought back from Egypt. Its is just a pressure fit over the copper pipe and the nipple on the back of the fridge but I do use 2 screw clamps for each fitting. If you'd like some photos I can oblige.

One could just cut the propane copper line about 2 inches back from the connection at the rear of the fridge (so as to connect some hose) and then cut the copper pipe about half way up the side wall under the sink (that's where I cut mine). What this set up allows me to do is to - once the fridge is out - is to hook the elect and the propane back up - through the sink cabinet - and run the fridge while out of its cabinet & in the middle of the van. You can see pictures of the flame etc at http://photos.yahoo.com/mwstebbins under Westy Fridge. Let me know. M
