For those of you that don't listen to Car Talk regularly be forewarned these guys do NOT speak kindly of the the old VW buses. I've heard them say that in a VW bus your legs are the first line of defense. They even listed them #10 on their all-time list of bad cars. (the Yugo was #1.) But I don't hold it against them. They apparently aren't made of the same cloth as the rest of us. They value things like ABS, air bags power steering, safety, reliability etc. They don't go for performance, either. They think highly of the Lexus and Toyota (yuck!). But they are car smart and very funny. The reason I mentioned this particluar show was I thought the woman caller was cute because she and her family loved their 84 Vanagon and were going through the same problem that we went through this list a little while back. Namely, what newer vehicle can we buy that would have the same spirit as the Vanagon? And, as we all know, there is nothing. Nada. Zip. Zilch. Zero. I was waiting for her to say she was considering a Honda Element which is about the closest I can come up with and it still falls short in the seating.
