Having lived with this very same problem, I have found that nothing short of a complete rebuild on the auto trans section will cure the cold hesitation. With that said, I have been living with it what will soon be 4 years. I changed fluid and filter every year. I use mobile 1 synthetic atf fluid and this seemed to moderate the problem. I let the van idle for two min before I move and have not had a problem. For what it is worth.

Right now I am fighting a bad water pump. Does not leak but lots of noise, shaft is real loose. Will post the end result
