Subject: timing help needed!
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"

Please advise:

82 2.0L with orig type distributor. I bought the Van with an 009 installed. Never had any troubles. I convinced myself, though, that putting an original 205 back in was the right thing to do. So I bought a remanufactured 205 and installed it. Ever since(4 months), I have had minor troubles.

Tonight I set out to verify the timing, should be at 7.5BTDC. I am using the static method Muir professes about.

Before any adjustments I checked it and it was at 16 BTDC. Ok so I fiddled and got it perfectly to 7.5BTDC per the static method. Start it up, adjust idle a hair, and all is well...

For shits and grins I check timing again: 20BTDC. A problem!! I restart it, run it 30 secs, shut off. Timing at 10BTDC. Restart, 30 secs, shut down, 4 BTDC. Restart, 30 secs, shut down, 10 ATDC.

Is this remanufactured distributor "bad" or am I missing the boat? I still have the 009 and am ready to install if need be....

Thanks folks, Paul '82 GL auto Weber'd
