Those pumps are good for about 100K miles between rebuilds. Leaking is usually the first symptom. If you wiggle the lever up and down you may discover a worn bearing which happens after lots of city driving.

If it leaks only the occasional drip you will get nasty vaporizing of the fuel while driving and after shutoff. It's intolerable and you must fix it. If your pump needs a rebuild it is about 350$, but you may squeak by with a bearing and/or seal replacement, taking the gamble when the big rebuild will be necessary and require exactly the same amount of work as the quickie.
