There is a seal and a plug. The seal goes around the outside of the hub, and is a bit difficult to replace. This rarely leaks. Inside the hub is a plug. This is easy to replace. Remove the the cv joint and look inside. Likely you will have to wipe off the grease, but tis there. Cheap plug also, just a few bucks. Have a 85 weekender with a 4 speed, just changed the gear oil in the tranny and now have a leak around the right axle where it enters the trans. Looks like there is a seal in there from the Bentley. Is this a big job to change out. I have some tools and can do simple mechanical fixes. Any help and advice appreciated. Thanks . Derrick MacKenzie
