While looking around for a replacement fuel tank for my leaking 83 diesel, I decided to try to stop the leak, if I could, using whatever such products were available cheap and locally. While it's no permanent fix, I got tired of losing fuel and stinking up the neighborhood and figured I'd gamble a few bucks on some snake oil. I bought Permatex Gas Tank & Radiator Repair, which said nothing about its use with diesel. My FLAPS didn't have a clue, so I bought it anyway because it said the it worked even on gas-wetted surfaces. I used carburetor cleaner on a rag and then sandpaper to clean the area down to the metal, then mixed up a dime-sized bit and mashed it as hard as I could into the offending spot. It was still leaking when I did it, I didn't even drain the tank. It stuck. It may not stick for long, but if it buys me a week or so, it will be well worth the few bucks. Right now it's bone dry.
