There aren't very many bike racks known to fit the Vanagon, it seems. I figured that that was due more to the fact that salespeople don't know what a Vanagon is when you ask them, and manufacturers don't care because there are so few. So I happened to drive to Nashville yesterday for a meeting, and I stopped at the REI south of town. I asked the bike guy if the had anything to fit the Vanagon. He did, he said, the Thule #961 Speeday. I looked on the box and at the instructions, no mention of a Vanagon in the fit listings. I asked why he thought it would fit since it wasn't listed, and he took the rack out to his 85 Westy in the parking lot to prove that it fit. So now I have a nice bike rack for both cars, and they're 20% off the regular $80 price right now. Jim |
