The idle stabilizer can cause cold-start symptoms also.  I suggest
unplugging the card from behind the rear-right trail light assy.  Go get a
butter knife and use it to pop open the case.  Look for burnt chips and
stuff.  Maybe that will give you a cluse as to if the device it working
properly.
