I made a tool out of plate steel and ground the corresponding sprockets into, then welded a 1/2" drive socket to the centre. You NEED to mark the position of the seal holder in relation to the case as it is also the adjustment of the ring & pinion gear. If you don't get it back to the original position then you will have thrown your ring & pinion gear out of adjustment. After having changed JUST the seal on vans and had them continue to leak afterward I now ALWAYS change both seals and both O-rings.
