i own a similar radio shack item. i bought it back in the day before in dash cd players were economically available. i used to use it to run my portable cd players aka discmans. its basically a multiple tap transformer, it worked well for me and it outlasted several cd players. if the ends supplied didn't work for the cd player i was using i would usually just splice the end on from the ac power adapter as i never used it any way.
