Harald,
After your frustrating trip salvaged and powered by Techron, you had
your injectors cleaned. So what is happening with the van's operation
now that you have had a few weeks. Are you back to running cheap gas
and doing fine or are you needing to use "brand name" gas and/or
additives to maintain smooth operation?
How about an update?
My 85's performance deteriorates (intermittent bucking) lately when I
run cheap gas from stations deep in the city or from Wawa, and perks
right up when I start running Mobil gas from a station out in the burbs
near my significant other's home. (E.g., Saturday noonish on the way
home from her house and back out there about 4 hours later, it bucked
quite a bit after about 10 days of mostly city or cheap gas. Even
though only half a tank down, I filled up with the suburban Mobil before
heading back into Baltimore Sunday. Just like it has done before,
within 4-7 miles of driving, the bucking stopped and didn't return.
Before it stayed away as long as I stayed with that the Mobil gas.
(Have now found a Mobil station near me in the city to try also, but am
suspicious that the good stuff is being sent to the burrs and that it
might not be full formula gas they send deep into the city. The
BP/Amoco gas from deep in the city doesn't solve the problem.)
It does this through 2 different ECU's, different Temp II sensor's, new
plugs, etc. The PO had every part of the FI system replaced last fall,
including a new AFM. The Temp II sensor I pulled out the other day
looked virtually new. Talked to the PO after your terrible trip and he
had noticed worse results when traveling and buying cheap gas, rather
than major brand names. (Even with all these new parts, I am starting
to swap pieces off my 84 which hasn't bucked in years and the problem
persists on the 85 as described.)
Therefore, if you have gotten good results after getting the injectors
cleaned, it might be a good idea for me also. Haven't looked for a
good shop in Baltimore for this yet.
