My "correct" sized battery fits pretty tight. I put a piece of plastic strapping around the battery before lowering it in the hole. Made it much easier to maneuver. I'm sure you could use a short piece of rope, or an old neck tie. I figured the plastic would be less prone to absorbing rust-friendly moisture, plus it was near by.
