The reliability is reasonably good, if not stellar, but more importantly any garage will know how to work on it! (Keep in mind, though, that if you think a VW Vanagon feels tippy, just wait until you get a big pickup camper on the back of a tall F-350. They really leeeeean over in the turns. The wind area and high center of gravity are enough of a concern that the Mackinac Bridge requires pickup campers to be escorted and slow to 15 mph during high winds.) That's not for me, though. And it's not even that I like Volkswagens that much. My loyalty is to Westfalia. I love the way they lay out their campers.
