I'd like to not only point out a Vanagon sighting, but also mention noteworthy driving. Wednesday night last week (Oct. 8) at around 1:30 a.m., I was cruising along at about 70 miles per hour south of Boston in a company box truck. When I rounded the ramp at the route 93 / route 3 split, a Vanagon authoritatively passed me. It was a later style passenger van with fiberglass bumpers, white in color, and sported a roof rack. I picked up the pace a bit and tailed the driver, holding a steady 75MPH. This continued onto route 95 south for a total of nearly 20 miles! I'd like to congratulate the owner of the van for driving it like a German car should be driven - quickly! He must be a kindred spirit, as I drove my Vanagon cross-country at 75-80 MPH and enjoyed breezing down the highway in a Golf diesel at a far above average pace. It's kind of fun getting an otherwise slow vehicle to cover ground rapidly. Perhaps this person was a fellow list member? Cheers, Alex |
