>Any thoughts as to why VW didn't put the Quattro system under the >vanagon? Would it have required too many modifications to an >otherwise "off the shelf" package? Because VW wanted to have its own full-time 4WD system. All Syncros (T3, Santana, Golf etc) used VCs instead of the Audi Quattro Torsen setup. In the latish 80s Nissan made a Pulsar with a VC too, though it was FWD not 4WD. Bet these don't crap-out the way VW's do! I think the Japanese ful-time 4WDs are fully-mechanical (no electronics). -- Andrew Grebneff Dunedin, New Zealand 64 (3) 473-8863 <andrew.grebneff@stonebow.otago.ac.nz> Fossil preparator Seashell, Macintosh & VW/Toyota van nut |
