As long as the coolant goes back down when cool things are okay. Make sure the pressure cap is doing its job. Have tested or simply replace it. They fail often.

Hi List,

I recently changed the coolant in my 1.9 wbx to an orange dex-cool fluid (50/50 mix). I have bleed all of the air out of the system and the main coolant reservoir is now staying full.

I have filled the expansion tank to the max line when the motor is cold. After the van has been run up to temperature and shut off the level in the expansion tank will rise 1/2 way up the cap, when everything cools off the level will drop back to the max line. Is this normal or do I have a problem? This van had green coolant in it before and I never noticed the level in the expansion tank getting so high, but I never looked. In the past I always made sure the fluid was up to the max line when cold. Does the orange fluid have a different expansion factor?

Thanks,

George
