I was quite gentle both removing the oil pressure sender and installing the temp sensor, finger tight and then about 1/4 to 1/2 turn. Just enough to snug it down.

OK, the location of the cylinder head temp sensor, I should be able to see this while standing behind the van looking into the engine compartment, not from under the van?

In my excuse for an attempt at my defense. :) Yep, I wondered at the big difference in the wrench size of the parts, but the business end looked the same and threaded by finger without a problem and the wire was the same with the same connector, so I simply thought aftermarket difference's, things change, try it and see, etc. If the business end were not the same I never would have tried it.

Yes, it sounds like you exchanged your oil pressure sender for a cylinder head temperature sender. I hope you kept the one you took out. ;) Incidentally, if I remember right that pressure sender uses a tapered pipe thread. Don't go crazy tightening it down; it needs to be just snug enough that it won't leak and no tighter.

To find the temp sender, ook on the left cylinder head for a part that looks just like the new one you bought, except dirtier. It's in a slightly hard spot to see, near one of the intake flanges. It will be inside the engine compartment, on part of the head that faces the side of the van.

A tip for future jobs: Generally when you replace a part, the new one should look very similar to the old one. If it doesn't, someone better be able to give you a good explanation for why.
