Other than covering it, I would suggest:

1 - put it up on jack stands to get the tires off the ground

2 - fill the fuel tank so it doesn't rust at the top

3 - put fuel preservative in the tank

4 - remove the battery

5 - wash and wax it first

6 - leave the parking brake OFF

7 - block all places where critters might make a home (e.g., intake, exhaust, etc.)

Cheers,

Jeff

Hey all, long time no write, but I've been reading! A little license snafoo had left me and the vanagon from driving around for awhile, but we're back. For the moment. Which leads to my storage question: I'm putting the van in my folks barn for about 6 months and I would love to hear any suggestions you all have for minimizing the toll it will take on the van just sitting. I have to take it off the road so no plates mean no driving it every two weeks to keep the juices flowing. I can of course start it, and intend to a couple of times a month. I also thought I might get it off it's feet and put it up on jackstands. Sound reasonable? Any other suggestions? Maybe fill it up with gas all the way so I minimize the rusting in the tank? Things like that?

I appreciate it y'all... Dustin '85 Vanagon, 1.9 - "The Triple Betty"
