How does a country homes camper compare to a Westy?

I lust after late model syncro Westies, but the beasts cost too much.

I'm thinking of possibly getting a vanagon syncro non-westy and putting a country camper roof on it. What do people think the costs would be?

I would also need a sink and some storage. I cold probably put a portable gas table inside the van and a portable refridgerator. However, I would need to top and bottom double beds.

As far as the fridge, something like the unit below would meet my needs better than a propane-powered unit http://www.fridgefreeze.com/performance.html

The cost is super high for me though. I think someone posted an alternative a few months ago?

My camping trips are usually only about 3 days and I drive the van around during that time. Also, I could put a third battery in the engine compartment. There seems to be space there on the sides.

So, my idea is that I would be able to get a syncro, much cheaper than a Westy, do the conversion pop-top from some place like country homes camper, get a sink installed, then use my own portable propane gas table, maybe with a 5 gallon propane tank, and my own electric-only fridge that would be colder than the dometic.

Any thoughts?

My goal is to camp with my wife and 1-2 kids at remote camp sites next to isolated lakes. Something I've done in the past and run into some mechanical problems.
