Subject: engine for sale
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" ; format="flowed"

It looks like I may have an engine for sale. I bought a 2.1L engine for my '87 Vanagon, I sent the guy the requested amount and also money to cover shipping. It eventually gets here, several weeks late due to his problems and shipping problems. I picked it up and took it to the mechanic. Well, when he gets through the list of vehicles in front of mine, he gives me quick call -- guess what this engine is a 1.9L not a 2.1L that I was told. I've talked with the guy who I bought it from, he swears he took it out of a '87 Vanagon, yea right and he didn't know the differences between the two engines or when VW started putting in 2.1L's either. Nor would he believe me but had to talk with the mechanic. My mechanic read him the serial number of the engine, sure enough its a 1.9L instead of a 2.1L. So now he wants me to pay for this engine to be shipped back and he'll see whether or not he has a 2.1L and then I'll have to pay for shipping a third time. I don't really like this idea so I'm thinking of selling the 1.9L and hopefully being able to find a good used affordable 2.1L to put in my van. Or going ahead and putting in an inline VW 4 or Subaru flat 4, although this route will be more expensive due to the added cost of the required adapters, wiring, etc.. I really don't want to install the 1.9L although my mechanic said he might be able to get it to work, but he's not for sure. Any thoughts, suggestions, or offers for a 1.9L??
