Subject: 82 won't crank was 82 won't start when hot
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

It was a long enjoyable weekend with a vist from my sisters kids, I let them drive our '48 Farmall Super A tractor around the field and we carved pumpkins and ate BBQ. Lots of fun. I did find time to correctly replace the cylinder head temperature sensor and put the oil pressure sender back in its proper place as I had mistakenly replaced the oil pressure sender with the new temp sensor last week. The oil light does not stay on anymore which is a good thing. However, I was not able to test the theory that the temp sensor was the problem with hot starting because.... Yup, you guessed it, now the van won't crank. I had this problem last winter and was able to take a long 1x2 and bang the solenoid and it cranked after that. Now I bang and bang and it still will not crank. I was able to push the van off and let it run for a while to get to running temperature, I was hoping the engine heat would loosen the solenoid. No go. So.. this coming weekends project looks like a testing of the solenoid/starter to see if it needs replacing or just greasing. Has anyone done this before? Got any advice? Any gotcha's I need to look out for?

Thanks much,

David Higginbotham 82 Westfalia Silk Hope, NC
