That makes sense. I believe I can do that. Bentley suggests dropping the right rear axle for access, is this a good idea? Also, and I hate sounding like the total idiot that I am, how do I test for voltage? Subject: Re: 82 won't crank was 82 won't start when hot A few things-and you will need a helper. You need to find out if power(and how much) is getting to the solenoid when you turn the key to the start position. In theory, when you turn the key it sends 12V directly to the solenoid which kicks over the starter and voila you have a delightful sound. If you are getting 12V to the solenoid, but no noise out of the starter, replace the starter. To verify the starter is bad, have it bench tested at many FLAPS for free. If you are only getting say 7 volts to the solenoid, you need to have your battery load tested at a FLAPS then check your wiring for a weak ground. If you are getting 0 volts to the solenoid, and the battery is good, you have a bad ignition switch. Paul '82 GL
