Jason

I am not an expert but it looks like a oxygen sensor problem. Check if the the cabling from the probe to the ECU is OK.

Disconnect the Oxygen sensor, and start your Westy. If the problem is fixed, you know the probe or the probe grounding is defective somewhere.

Good luck

Germain

hey all, hate to bore you all with this time honored question but.... today i finally gotmy 87 westy syncro project running. for the last couple of months i have pulled EVERYTHING and replaced with new, exhausts, coolant lines, disributor, all cvs, bearings, h20 pump, tranny fluids, oil, filters, belts, plugs etc.... so now i got her running, sounding real strong, good compression, ran new gas, techron fi cleaner, but after about 10 minutes of idling she starts running harsh, shooting a little black smoke, choking noises, not holding an idle, when reved has a hard time catching up if at all, finally no idle and she dies. i swapped out ecu, no change, i swapped out afm,. no change. what else? timing good, mixture seems alright. she always starts and runs fine but after a bit these symptoms occur. confused jason 90gl 87 syncro westy project 87 wolfsburg parts van
