I've sold several vehicles on eBay. I sold a parts Westy. All the other
vehicles I have sold have been more "high end." I sold a gorgeous Mitsubishi
Eclipse, very low mileage, nice stereo, adult owner. Nice car. The
transaction did get a bit intense as the buyer was taking out a loan on the
car and needed information for their banker. I had to fax the title and some
other documents to the bank.
With vehicles there tend to be more people asking questions. It is
definitely more work to sell a vehicle, but then again, you stand to make
more money. So far I have had to do a good bit of work on the sale of
vehicles, but it has always been worth it in the end. In fact, that is one
of the things I do for "work" (my job is doing anything I have to do to not
work for anyone else). I've gotten good at selling other folks' cars on
eBay. Most people are scared of selling cars and they hate dealers. For
several hundred dollars (depending upon the vehicle) they are very happy to
have someone else handle the transaction. I do all the marketing (whether
placing the ad on eBay or other internet boards), write all the ads, take
all the pictures, handle all the correspondence, and handle all of the
paperwork at the end of the sale. So far I haven't had any complaints. In
fact, recently when I ask one of my customers (sellers) if I could use him
as a reference he wrote, "Of course I will give a positive reference! I
think you did a great job selling my car, and I got much more for it than I
thought I could."
I do believe that you can't sell just any car on eBay. There has to be
something special about it. Jettas are a dime a dozen and you can find them
in all the classified ads in the paper. Why pay for national advertising?
However, if you have a really nice vehicle in outstanding shape, low
mileage, unusual history, special equipment, etc. then eBay is the right
audience.
Cheers,
Bruce
