I suspect 30-ga would work barring the mechanical problem of keeping it in one piece -- the actual power to drive the meter comes from the +12 supply at the panel. For mechanical integrity Bosch recommends a minimum size of 1 mm^2 IIRC, but half the wires in the Vanagon are smaller than that. Marine-grade wire is lovely stuff, and they get a lovely price for it. Use it by all means but expect all your other wiring to be jealous and start throwing little fits of pique. ;-> david
