Hello all,
I know there is some degree of disdain associated with discussions of using Audi 5000 Turbo wheels on the Vanagon / Syncro. I have a 1987 Syncro and recently purchased a set of these wheels on EBay. They came with two spacers (1/4") and all lug bolts (screw into the hub rather then onto a stud). Three questions: first of all, when I tried a bare wheel on a front hub, it fit with no rubbing however it looks like there is potential for the tire to rub against the spring housing. Do you Syncro owners use a spacer on the front or not? There seems to be some ambiguity on the list archives about this. If you don't use a spacer, what tires are you running? Will the 215/75/15 fit without rubbing against the spring housing? Any other modifications necessary? Now, for the big question, are you Audi 5000T people using longer studs up front (probably unnecessary if no spacer needed)? How do you get the old studs out so that these new lug bolts can be installed?
Thanks for your wisdom and patience,
