My non-GL Camper didn't come with swivel seats so the battery compartment access might be similar to the non-camper vans. Also, my Camper came from VW/Westfalia with an auxiliary battery in place, so it's possible that the compartment was factory modified, I don't have another Vanagon handy to compare it to.
