The ONLY structural wheel failures I have heard of are mag (magnesium) wheels. This is due to corrosion and hairline fractures. Never heard of an aluminum wheel failing. And there are plenty of heavy commercial vans operating here with aftermarket car alloys, including a few sets of low-profile tires on big wheels.

The Germans are big on 16-17" wheels and low-profile tires, and the TÜV is passing them (though admittedly TÜV tests for motorcycles pass drive chains with seized links...). -- Andrew Grebneff Dunedin, New Zealand 64 (3) 473-8863 <andrew.grebneff@stonebow.otago.ac.nz> Fossil preparator Seashell, Macintosh & VW/Toyota van nut
