I have a 80 Vanagon/L as well and she has a single carb. Don't know which one but the mechanic was surprised too. I had a 72 bus back in Germany some 30 years ago with a 2000ccm machine and she had double carb. Mechanic didn't like it because of the setting. Ahh the good old days. BTW, if some body need some translation from German to English, I can do it for you.
