Yeah, that "bowing it" thing is pretty important. I put four nice fresh chrome hubcaps on my '84 work van and the first time I broke 45mph I was passed by my left front hubcap. Took 5 minutes of digging through the brush to find it. Then, on my way home after finding the left front, I was passed by the right front. Never found that one...

I like to run the old skool chrome dog dish hubcaps. If one gets stolen, they're only $9 each anyway. ;) Haven't had one stolen yet, though the left side front one did fly off when I hit a speed bump once. I had to bow it a little with my knee to get it to clear the speedometer cable end better, after that it stayed on.

As a side benefit, that tight fit keeps your lug nuts clean! Seriously...the lug nuts on my '75 bus were pristine. The ones on my '82, which originally had the plastic basket-weave wheelcovers, were pretty rusty.
