I just layed wood floor at my house and had about 1000 sq ft of burbur carpet, although I did not use all of it in the van, I put down a thin sheet of plywood, 1/2", and then padding and carpet. Secured the whole thing with gold carpet strips from home depot. It turned out great and it is soft on the tootsies!!
