I just bought my first Westy, a 1980 with 80K original miles. Since the most complicated piece of camping equipment I've ever owned is a tent, wish me luck. I'll do some reading here hopefully before I do something stupid. I know I have three immediate tasks for the van: 1) the key to the water tank is missing. Will a locksmith be able to set me up or do I need to replace the cap somehow? About how much should I plan on spending? 2) the boots at the ends of the steering arm are torn. How much trouble are they to change and are there any special tricks I should know about? 3) finding a gathering of Westys in Southwest to meet. Are there any events or clubs in the Southwest? Thanks for the help and we're looking forward to meeting y'all. Skip Emmert-Keaton 1980 Westfalia |
