Subject: Unknown Vanagon Problem...
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

Folks-

This past Sunday, my wife left on 'road trip' to Orlando, FL from Delta, CO. She was using our '84 GL. (I had been using it as my daily driver 100 mile r/t commuting to work week in week out. Not a single problem... ran great, smooth, fast and 23-25 mpg.) My wife got within 20 miles west of Pueblo, CO when the following occurred- as she described it to me:

1. The OXYS and battery lights began flickering but not too brightly. After a short while 2. The red light in the water temp gauge came on very bright and almost immediately, the water temp needle pegged at high.

At that point, my wife immediately pulled over and stopped and did not drive it again. She got the Van towed to the Pueblo VW dealer who checked it out with a mechanic (they did say the oil was down a quart and a half) but other than that they drove it around without duplicating the problem. They could not find anything wrong with it.

I described the problem to my mechanic- Bob at Grand Mesa Imports in Delta- and he thought it might possibly be the voltage regulator. Personally, I'm leaning that way, too.

Any of you have any ideas? Has this ever happened to you?
