> How do you tell OEM German heads from the AMC's? > could AMC be Spanish produced head as well?
Yes, all of the AMC wasserboxer heads originate in Spain. This includes AMC heads sold under the VW name (yes this does happen; I have personally seen AMC heads in VW boxes come directly from the VW dealer) and also under the Kolbenschmidt name. However, the ones sold under the AMC name here in the U.S. are not necessarily made by AMC, or even European made for that matter. Several sources have reported, on this list and elsewhere, that AMC's U.S. distributor imports them "bare" and then assembles them here using Brazilian and other out-sourced parts. It is for this reason that I import the 2.1L heads that I sell, as complete heads, instead of obtaining them via the standard U.S. distribution. This ensures that they're actual European built AMC's rather than anything less. (Note: they can also be used on 1.9L engines if replaced in pairs.) - Ron Salmon The Bus Depot, Inc. www.busdepot.com (215) 234-VWVW _____________________________________________ Toll-Free for Orders by PART # : 1-866-BUS-DEPOT |
