Check your dust cap on the driver side front wheel. The little gizmo on the end is the bottom end of the speedo cable. If it is worn round, or if the hole it sits in is worn round, then the wheel isn't spinning it and you get nothing.

-check the little circlip to make sure it is held in properly. -check the hole in the dust cap: if it is worn, smacking it a little with a ball-peen hammer around the edge of the hole will make things fit tighter. -gluing isn't a good idea, you won't be able to pull the cap off to access the bearings. -more info available in the archives
