But the most important thing is the gap.

So, if that is correct, it should make very little difference to the coil if there is resistance wire/rotor or not. RF emitted (radio noise) may change due to reflected power (bouncing back from the plug) being absorbed more or not, but that should do nothing to the coil, since the voltage is much lower than the initial pulse.
